11 YEARS OF IMPACT: PROJECT BACKPACK'S HISTORY

Project Backpack started in 2013 as a backpack giveaway to 400 Detroit Public School students. Mike quickly realized the overwhelming need for backpacks and school supplies in the community, and the next year he provided backpacks and supplies to all Detroit Public School students in grades K through 5.

Since then, Project Backpack has continued to grow, with the goal of providing a backpack and school supplies to any student in Michigan who needs one. After the completion of this year's Project Backpack, over 300,000 backpacks will have been donated to local students.

But we need to do more. We need to do better. And we will. Each year, Project Backpack grows more and more, which is what we always hoped for when the program was established ten years ago. We wanted to ensure that the students of Detroit, the surrounding communities, the state of Michigan, and beyond have the tools they need for a successful school year. And we will continue to make each year bigger and better than the last.
